Are We Required To Do Anything?

We, especially in the western hemisphere, have been lulled into a false sense of security. We watch movies, TV etc. and no matter what the hero or heroine face, they overcome it and live happily ever after – and we didn’t have to do anything. The main character took care of everything and won.

We have been inadvertently programmed to believe that someone else is going to take care of things and we just have to sit back and enjoy the story. We don’t even feel that we have to vote. America has been here for hundreds of years and our ability to prosper has been guaranteed for all that time, thanks to others who voted, or who fought and died to maintain our freedom.

The Church is the same. We sit back and enjoy the sermon, and don’t worry about a thing. The Church has been here for thousands of years and our ability to worship has been guaranteed all that time, thanks to the martyrs and the evangelists who fought to maintain our freedom of religion.

Jesus didn’t tell us to sit back while he takes care of everything. He said, “Go ye into all the world making disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you.” Then he said, “And, lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the world.”

Yes, this world is our “obstacle course”. We have to go through it and not sit on the sidelines. We need to go through it with the goal in mind to be strengthened and emboldened to meet every obstacle that comes against us. God has a spot for us in His grand scheme of things. It is up to us to be strong enough and determined enough to bring honor to Him as we fill the spot that He entrusted to us. A good player never sits on the sidelines at practice or at game time.

Everything will be all right, if we work to make it right. And remember, He is always with us.
