The Decisions

I’ve had people write to me, who may not have a Christian background, expressing their appreciation for a particular blog, but not knowing how it fits into the whole picture. I would encourage those people to get a Bible and start reading. I would suggest reading the Book of John first, then reading Matthew, Mark and Luke. Those books present the history of Jesus’ life and death. Then continue on reading the rest of the New Testament.

Reading is important, but reading to understand and feel what is being told is of greatest importance. When you read about the trial, beating and crucifixion of Christ, you should know that Isaiah prophesied that Christ would be beaten until he was hardly recognized as being human. Jesus suffered unimaginably emotionally and physically, yet he willingly endured these things knowing that only his suffering and death as the Son of God could pay for our sins and cleanse us of all unrighteousness. When you realize how terribly he suffered for us, you simply cannot help but to love him. And when you learn to love him, you will be filled with so much of God’s love, that it will overflow and you will learn to love your neighbor and even your enemies. By loving every person as a creation of a loving God, you will no longer desire to use them, abuse them or cause them miss their own salvation from their loving God.

Sometime during this period, you should join a church, to surround yourself with like-minded people and continue your learning process. I would encourage you to be baptized. Many churches teach that it isn’t necessary for forgiveness, yet Jesus commanded it, and it is the first physical step we can take in obeying his word. It is, also, the time that you can give up your old self of sin and missteps, and allow God to lead you in paths of righteousness and service.

Turning from a life of confusion, indecision, emptiness, darkness and death, is not a sad thing. It is a glorious step into a life knowing that you are protected and guided toward fulfillment, completion and eternal life.

It’s difficult to explain how much a person gains in becoming a Christian. Before I found Christ, I used to be proud of myself, my abilities and my accomplishments, thinking that I had made many good decisions. Now that I look back, I am ashamed of my former life. It may have looked good to men, but there was an emptiness. It didn’t bring the satisfaction and sense of wellness that I hoped it would. Now that I know security and joy like I could never find following my own ways. I can safely say that no one who follows Christ will ever regret their decision. Once you’ve learned truth, you can’t return to the lies of the world. It is a love affair with our creator that will last through all eternity.
In short, find God, embrace God, and ask Him to embrace you. You will never regret it, and you’ll celebrate your decision throughout all of eternity.

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him, should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
